Dolphins (PM+ Non-Fiction) |
Books |
Dolphins are mammals that live in groups and cooperate and communicate with each other, which makes them more like humans than other sea creatures. This introduction to dolphins shows the parts of a dolphin’s body, and looks at some of the differences between dolphins. It explains how dolphins navigate, why some species are endangered, and how we can protect them. It includes information in a variety of text types, with illustrations, full-colour photos, fact boxes and diagrams – in the popular PM Non-Fiction series for younger readers.
I used to help to rescue stranded whales and dolphins when I was a volunteer for Project Jonah. I wrote and published their magazine for a few years too, which was probably better suited to my skills. Those pilot whales are heavy! I like learning about dolphins, so I often choose to write about them. I’ve also written articles about people doing research on endangered species such as New Zealand’s Hector’s Dolphin, although that article made me look at how people calculate populations, and sadly, I’m not very good at maths.
